Start with the location of your hotel, then check the drive to the departure pier, the time aboard the boat, planned island stops and expected return. Two tours may both say Saona but spend different amounts of the day on transportation or on shore.
Ask whether the listed duration begins at hotel pickup or at the marina. Confirm what is included, which stops are planned, what happens if sea conditions change and how the return transport is arranged.
Choose the pace that suits you
A longer transfer may still be worthwhile if Saona is the experience you most want, but it should be an informed choice. Bayahíbe can be a practical base for travelers who also want time on the Caribbean coast or another nearby island.
Do not assume that every excursion visits Palmilla or Mano Juan. Check the itinerary and respect the protected area, its residents and its wildlife.
